Preservation Efforts

The St. Croix Historical Society is actively engaged in preserving the history of the Calais Community. Through our efforts, we have assisted with the maintenance and restoration of the Whitlock Mill Lighthouse, the Dr. Job Holmes Cottage and Holmestead, the creation of the historic districts in town, and the founding of Meridian Park.

The Cottage opens during the summer months to enable visitors to tour it at no charge. Come and see Dr. Job Holmes’ office and living quarters that he shared with his wife and family in the early 1800s– featuring his original medicine chest, a wooden wheelchair, and many other historical artifacts from the region.
